Foot Zoning is the therapy in which pressure, strokes, and other techniques are used to affect signals in the feet. These signals relay messages to organs, tissues, and systems in the body to correct imbalances. A map of four zones of the feet is followed to ensure each signal and system is worked. Each treatment is basically the same for every person, although each body responds uniquely.
Throughout the zone, we look for disturbances, imbalances, and energy blockages by the way it feels and looks in the feet. Foot zoning is a holistic approach focusing on the body as a whole rather focusing on an illness or one body part or system. As we unblock energy it helps our cells and DNA to balance, restore, rejuvenate, and repair our bodies.
HISTORY OF FOOT ZONE THERAPY
Used throughout history, foot zone therapy has been in many areas of the world such as Europe, China, India, Japan, and Egypt. In North America Cherokee tribes also practiced a form of foot zoning.
Today we attribute the modern development of Foot Zone Therapy and the techniques used to Dr. Charles Ersdal, from Norway. His research and experience led him to the determination that you needed to treat the whole body to get the full benefit from a foot zone treatment. That is why today we give a similar zone to each person each time. The focus may change but the order in which we zone is the same.
BENEFITS OF FOOT ZONING
So, why get a foot zone? While zoning the therapist is paying attention to two things: what the foot looks like and how it feels. As they assess each area of the zone the practitioner may notice discoloration, puffiness, different texture, hollowness, etc. These give an indication of what body systems or organs may need attention.
For example, I was zoning my daughter and noticed her liver area was swollen and redder than other areas. While in the liver area I used tools to help balance that organ. As I have continued to zone that area, her overall health has improved and the liver area is looking better. It isn’t as puffy nor as red. She is feeling better too.

During a session we go over every organ and system to help it to balance, repair and restore. A foot zoning for the feet is like getting a tune-up for a car. Most of the time it feels like a really nice foot massage but there may be some discomfort and tenderness where there are areas of imbalance or blockage. This is where communication with the therapist is helpful. It lets them know where to focus and spend a little more time to balance and clear the area.
One of my favorite things about getting a zone is that it can also be considered a beauty treatment in that you get a “facelift”, increased circulation to the hair, and the signal to tone and strengthen the muscles of the abdomen, chest, and neck.
WHO WOULD BENEFIT FROM A FOOT ZONE?
Anyone really would benefit from a foot zone. A baby’s lymph system, lungs, and kidneys can often be burdened because of what the mother ate or was exposed to during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Infants and children respond really well to foot zoning. Parents notice better concentration and calming after a zone.
It can be helpful for young girls and boys to be helped through the process of going through puberty. It helps balance hormones and can relieve symptoms of PMS, muscle aches, cramping, water retention, and emotional issues that come into play.
For women experiencing menopause, it can be a difficult time. Regular foot zone treatments seem to help the changes in hormones. Aging can also be curbed, helping with the slowing of grey hair and wrinkles.
Athletes greatly benefit from a zone to increase oxygen and circulation as well as recovery. Sick individuals can feel better fast and it helps the healing process.

FOOT ZONING TOOLS
A variety of tools can be used in foot zoning. The most used tools are the practitioner’s hands, knuckles, and fingertips. Gemstones are also great tools to help when you need to go deeper or to change up the energy when there is an area that feels blocked. Tools like spherical stones on the bottom of the feet. It helps work a larger area and feels really good. Gemstone wands can also be used to get more precise and focused on an area.

Foot Zoning works the nerve signals in the feet through a specific massage technique to stimulate the brain to affect change in the corresponding area — muscle, bone, joint, organ or system. The zone encourages the cells to return to their original healthy state. This method improves the overall health and wellness of the body. It detoxes the organs and systems in the body and stimulates the lymph system. You will enjoy benefits physically, mentally, and emotionally.
